Week 7

This theme was totally inspired by your gorgeous photos
 in Gallery 6 {Light in the Dark}.

There is something about black & white photography
that excites me: It's dramatic & inviting, and it changes
a scene completely.

I'll meet you back here when Gallery 7 {Black & White} opens up!

I follow your blog but don't participate in the weekly gallery because...I don't know why. The last three weeks I have spent many, many hours sifting through my parents' and some of my grandparent's thousands of photos. Hard, emotional work for me because I take thousands of photos a year so it's a horrendous job to dispose of theirs. I tried everything to get one my siblings to do it but to no avail. That's probably for the best though because I fear they would all have been destroyed whereas I have kept hundreds.

What I want to say today is that I am 63 years old and have photos of every generation back to my great-great-great grandparents. I am so blessed. Naturally they are all black & white until my generation forward. For the most part they are crisp and perfect images even though many have been stored in shoe boxes and plastic tubs in a garage for decades. Color photos do not have the staying power of black & white; perhaps even black & white photos processed from digital won't either but it is certainly a good idea to make sure that family portraits are also taken/printed in black & white.

What a treasure! I'm in the process of scanning family photos. I plan to make a scrapbook of them for my children, nieces and nephew for Christmas. My photos don't go nearly as far back as yours. I think I'm a little jealous.
